Wrongful
Termination
Defending Your Rights After Unjust Job Loss
Wrongful termination occurs when an employer fires an employee for reasons that are discriminatory, retaliatory, against public policy, or that violate a state or federal law.
For example,
it is against the law for an employer to fire an employee:
Because the employee has inquired about wages, made a claim for unpaid wages, or discussed wages with co-workers.
Because the employee has reported a health or safety violation to an external agency (such as OSHA).
Because the employee has reported information that the employee believes is evidence of a violation of a state or federal law, rule or regulation.
Because the employee has inquired about or taken protected leave.
Because of the employee's race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
Because the employee was injured on the job and utilized workers compensation.
